Diving
The underwater world of the Pacific Coast is overflowing with marine life both large and small. Diving is on the Gulf of Papagayo with approximately 29 dive sites along 75 miles of rugged coastline.
Most dive sites can be reached in 20-50 minutes by boat. Exceptions, but worth the one hour journey, are the Catalina Islands. A two hour boat ride will take you to the Bat Islands where you can see the impressive bull sharks, 8-12ft in length.
Local dive sites can be dived year-round. The best diving around the Catalina Islands is December to April, especially for the manta rays. It is not possible, however, to dive the Bat Islands between December and March due to the Papagayo Winds.
Five days diving is included in the package price with tanks, weights and belts. This includes two local morning boat dives per day.
It is possible to upgrade your package in resort if you would like to dive either the Bat Islands or the Catalina Islands. These sites are not pre-bookable as they are weather dependent and suitable for more advanced divers. Clients are therefore asked to do a local dive first to ascertain dive standards.
Water temperatures vary between 24-28°C in April to November and drop to around 20°C from December to March. Visibility varies from 10-80ft.
