French Polynesia consists of 118 islands scattered across five far-flung archipelagos in the South Pacific.
The more famous islands of Tahiti and Bora Bora are found in the Society Islands. Rangiroa is part of the Tuamotu Group, a collection of low-lying islands or atolls where a narrow barrier reef surrounds a shallow lagoon. Rangiroa is the second-biggest atoll in the world and measures 50 miles by 15 miles. So large it is impossible to see the other side of the lagoon.
Located north west of Tahiti, Bora Bora is one of the best known of all the islands that make up French Polynesia.
