Resort Information
In February 1944 the advancing US forces attacked a major Japanese fleet which was at harbour in Truk Lagoon.
Today, the shipwrecks still remain in the clear, warm waters and, as you fly towards the airport, the outlines of many of the sunken ships can be quite clearly seen.
The wrecks lie at all depths from the surface down to over 50m, with many good examples in less than 30m of water. Although there are some very easy dives, some are quite challenging and therefore recommended as being more suitable for experienced divers. Many interesting artefacts remain on the wrecks, with guns and quantities of ammunition commonplace. Most cargo vessels have open cargo holds with many examples of trucks, jeeps, tanks and artillery guns in addition to the usual supplies.
Located on the best sandy beach on the island, the rustic style Truk Blue Lagoon Resort provides air-conditioned guest rooms with private bathrooms and a private balcony looking directly out over the sea. The resort is set among coconut palms on the old seaplane base and offers a very good restaurant and a beach front bar.

Diving
Truk Lagoon is not only a unique and incomparable wreck dive destination, but has much to hold the interest of all divers with regular sightings of grey reef, whitetip, blacktip and silvertip sharks as well as barracuda, trevally, manta rays and tuna. Due to the strong currents, don’t expect soft coral formations around the passes, however, there is a profusion of hard coral gardens on the outer reef. Visibility is superb, often more than 40 metres.
